A boy and his bird « Thread Started on Feb 15, 2008, 10:33am »
Merco walked slowly along the route, a delighted expression on his face. The wind was calm, and the skies cloudless. His new companion, Ciel, was still perched on his head, taking in her surroundings from her secure roost.
Merco made a chirping noise with his throat, calling Ciel down from her roost. Picking her up, he clasped her to his chest, where she snuggled down happily. "It must be nice to get out of that lab Ciel, I bet you were bored being stuck in that pokeball." Ciel chirped happily in response to her new trainer's question, she was enjoying the fresh air.
Sitting down in a nice spot by a stream, Merco unpacked some sandwiches for lunch. Sharing them with Ciel, Merco looked around for any other people or pokemon nearby.

Below a small, stunted tree, a tiny pokemon sat, hard at work with his berry collection. It moved its snout over them, and a feeling of pride shook through him, his brown and cream fur bristling. He had them all, and prize of his collection, a Sitrus berry. He stared at it, knowing that it could do more then completely heal him, since he was only at level 4 with a HP of 16.
He raised his snout and sniffed again, grimacing as he scented a Bird pokémon. Those theives! Forever stealing his berries. But this one had a trainer, a human with him. The Zigzagoon growled quietly, but he had to defend his collection, and that meant attacking this Bird pokémon.
With a cry, he hurled himself at the golden pokémon, Growling angrily tolower its attack, before aiming for a direct hit with a Tackle.

Fortunately, the growl had alerted Ciel, and she was able to dodge her attacker by jumping to the left. Merco jumped back, dropping his sandwitch in the process. Knowing that he was now in a pokemon battle, Merco got into a defensive stance, ready to run if things got bad.
"Ok Ciel! Try a peck attack from behind!" Ciel dashed towards the Zigzagoon, diving at it beak-first.

The small pokémon squealed angrily as the sharp beak landed on his back, plucking out a chunk of fur. He skidded and landed upside down, his movements slowed by the hit but still fast. He rolled over, using his short tail to hurl sand at his foe in a Sand Attack. Not waiting to see if he hit or not, he whirled round, heading in for another Tackle.

Several sand grains became lodged in Ciel's eyes, and she began trying to wipe them out using her wings. Busy trying to restore her vision, Ciel took a direct hit from the tackle, and went rolling backwards into a tree.

Merco winced at the damage to his beloved pokemon, glaring at the Zigzagoon angrilly. "Ciel! Try your sing attack!" The small golden bird got to it's feet, and despite it's injury began singing a sweet melody to it's Zigzagoon opponent.

Must.... protect... berries.... thought the Zigzagoon sluggishly, as the deadly song edged its way into his brain. He started moving away, desperate to protect his hoard, but the song worked its magic and he slumped onto the ground, snoring quietly. He had used his hold item, the Chesto berry, as a last ditch attempt to stop himself from falling asleep, though he had only managed to eat half of it. However, it was enough to wake him up in a while. All he had to do was wait.

Merco smiled, the attack had worked! He swayed a litte, the attack had made him a little tired himself. But now was not the time to show weakness, only the strongest became gymk leaders!
"Ciel! Follow it up with another peck attack! Keep on attacking!"

The buffet of attacks to his body woke him. He was in a bad state, with about 4HP left. Growling angrily, he began to retreat, moving closer and closer to the tree. But as another attack came his way, he leaped into the air in a last, desperate hope, stretching his jaws wide in a Bite attack that was weakened and might not even hit. But he had to hope.
